Tutorials FAQ

  • Mood: Artistic
  • Listening to: U-Go-Girl - Lee Hyori
  • Reading: Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
  • Watching: Voice
I've been noticing that a lot of people are asking me the same questions, and it's not that I'm mean to not want to answer them, it's just very repetitive...especially when the person above them just asked the same question (then again, it's not like people comment on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th page)

Also, some of the things I will write here, may not have necessarily been asked before, but is just for information purposes :]

so to make your life and myself much easier, I have compiled a bunch of frequently asked questions to hopefully help you. If you still have questions that were unanswered, or need me to elaborate further on something, please ask here.
---------------------

oo1. WHY DID YOU START MAKING THESE TUTORIALS?
I know I've seen a lot of people (myself included) adoring the make up of these beautiful j-rock stars' and want to copy it or basically look the same. A majority of us people don't have Asian shaped eyes or even a wide range of materials. My tutorials were created for those with, a different eye shape, or those who just have simple/basic materials. As I made my first few, more and more people liked it and I decided to open up a small request sort of thing and people offered and I'm continuing to make them. Basically I want to give hope to those who feel like they can't look like the stars they loved....because you can! :D

oo2. WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR HAIR DONE?
Well, as of July 29th, my hair dresser quit her job and moved to another location. However she has contacted me and let me know where her new place is. I can't remember the name at the moment, but it's located in a plaza called "Plaza del Sole" in Woodbridge, Ontario (40 minutes north of Toronto) And her name is Agnes ;)

oo3. WHERE CAN I FIND THAT i.c.o.n. styling web THAT YOU USE?
I get mine at my hair dresser's (Joseph's) Although, I have seen it or even the i.c.o.n styling products in any store that sells hair products (i.e. beauty supply, not just any store with hair products like Wal-Mart). If you would like, you can visit their website HERE. If you're looking for the 'cast a web', click on PRODUCTS>>IDENTITY [styling]>>cast a web (7th one down) I do also recommend the shampoo + conditioner

oo4. WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE EXTENSIONS IN Tutorial #o2?
Once again, I got them from my hair salon. Simply all you need to do is ask for regular blonde extensions, then ask if they can dye it to a specific color. They should be able to do it for you.

oo5. CAN YOUR TUTORIALS WORK FOR THOSE WITH DARKER SKIN?
I want them to be! If I had a friend who was willing to model it for me, I would definitely make a tutorial for that! Either wise all I can recommend is that you use foundation that is 1-3 shades lighter than your skin and something that will make colors appear vibrant on your skin. It's all about experimenting.

oo6. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND WEARING THIS TYPE OF MAKE UP EVERYDAY?
Not really. I think you would be okay for cosplaying, but for everyday? It depends on the quality of your make up and how often you touch it up and how much you touch/rub your eyes/face. Either wise, whatever floats your boat 8D

oo7. CAN I REQUEST TUTORIALS?
Yes you may!! I have opened a request entry and you may request what you want HERE. Don't be afraid to do so!

oo8. HOW CAN I SHOW YOU MY RESULTS?
well, if you want, you can send me a note like some people have already and I definitely appreciate it! I like seeing people's results :>

oo9. CAN I SPREAD THESE AROUND?
yes! please do. I guess all I ask is that you don't go making fun of me. I havent had anybody say anything negative to me...yet, but I would love to keep it that way...even if there may me a haters club of some sort >>; I'm not trying to claim i look EXACTLY like so & so, even though my tutorials do have specific titles. I just go by the general look/stereotype of a certain style really. I don't think I'm cool or hot shit, I just want to help.

o1o. MY QUESTION IS NOT HERE. WHAT DO I DO?/I'M CONFUSED ABOUT QUESTION ##. HELP?
please comment to this entry with your comments/concerns/questions. It makes it more organized for me and the more questions you ask, the more I can help others with similar questions. Don't be afraid to ask anything.

o11. I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT HOW YOU DID ________ IN YOUR ________ TUTORIAL.
well, that's probably the only exception I'll have regards to questions. You can answer the question in the actual tutorial comments, I won't mind... even if you have 2 questions and only one regards to something in the tutorial and another one completely different.

o12. HEEEEY, YOU MADE A SPELLING MISTAKE!
yes, yes. I know. I make mistakes, but who doesnt? No I obviously don't proofread anything until after it's done...which is a bad habit. So don't worry about that really :\

o13. WHAT BRANDS OF MAKE UP DO YOU USE?
I've been meaning to get this done~ and thank goodness I was reminded :'D So here we go.

FOUNDATION
i. Maybelline: Pure Makeup liquid foundation - this stuff is great because it's water-based which means it's oil free :D which also means it wont clog the hell out of your pores D: I also use the lightest shade :3
ii. Maybelline: Dream Matte Powder - this stuff is more of a damp powder, but it's really nice and goes on smoothly. Once again, I use the lightest shade.
iii. Quo: Wet & Dry Powder Foundation - This is my newly found foundation that I absolutely love! It covers everything so nicely and you don't even need to apply concealer underneath it and it won't look ridiculously caked on. Unfortunately it's only available in Canadian Shoppers Drug Mart stores.

EYES
i. Rimmel London: Black Magic - this is the black eyeliner that I use everyday. It's also the one I use to go over the black liquid eyeliner with. I've been using this particular brand for a couple of years now and I really love it <3
ii. Maybelline: Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner - black - this stuff is really good. It's like a little bottle of white out or something x3 it goes one nicely and dries quickly, but it's quite translucent. You may need more than one coating, or as I do, regular pencil eyeliner on top.
iii. Maybelline: Cool Effect - white - This stuff is great! It's thick so it's nice and also if you're lucky, sometimes you get the ones that slide on so nicely and bright. This is probably my favorite thing x3 I just recommend that you find/buy yourself a pencil sharpener with a bigger hole
iv. Annabelle Eyeliners - red & green - a lot of people have been asking me about the red eyeliner. It's not in fact eyeliner, it's actually lip liner. It works just as well x3 and the green one is nothing special ^^;
v. Rimmel London: Extreme Definition 2 tone eye definer - blue & purple - these are really cool~ you get 2 shades of the same color so you can do some awesome shadow/highlight affects. I used these in my first couple of tutorials x3
vi. Maybelline/Cover Girl mascaras - It doesn't really matter to me what kind of mascara I use. These are okay. Although I find the orange one (Cover Girl lash blast) clumps a bit more :\
vii. NYX tricolor eyeshadow - haha that part about sexy babes made me giggle :'D I looked at my friend and said "but i'm not a sexy baabe D:" and she said "shut up and just buy it" :'D ANYWAYS I actually really like NYX's stuff...even though this is all I have from them~ They have a lot of different colors and I had a hard time choosing so I just picked this one with pink, red and blue.
viii. Rimmel London: eyeshadow - white - this is my favorite eyeshadow~ I love using it to highlight my eyes x3 and I also like how it blends with other colors, shadows, etc.
vix. L'oreal HiP bright shadow duo - purple & yellow/gold - these are very vibrant colors and I hope to use them more in the future.
x. L'oreal/Annabelle/N.Y.C MISC stuff - burgundy eyeliner, black eyeshadow, yellow eyeshadow, light purple eyeshadow - just some other random stuff that I like to use, but don't use often.
xi. Quo: Fake Eyelashes - well it doesnt really matter which brand you use~ there's so many out there, but sadly I can never find them, so this is the next best thing. These are full lashes and they're nice and long. I don't recommend using mascara on them, even though some people do... it ruins them quickly. I also recommend picking up some glue for it too.
xii. Beauties Factory: 120 Complete Color Palette - This stuff is amazing!! There's so many colors and it's really convenient to have. The colors last very long and give a "stained" look, but it doesn't mean that you won't be able to get them off. The colors are extremely vibrant as well. You can purchase them from this site.
xiii. Pro Face Stage Make-up - white stage make-up usually used for clown faces or mimes. I found it to be a nice primer for my eyes and makes the colors even more vibrant when applied on top.

LIPS
i. Claire's Lipgloss - haha, I know claire's is known for cheap jewelry, but I just like the lightness of this gloss and it smells nice x3
ii. CoverGirl: TruShine Lipcolor - Powderpink 400 - I really like the color of this since I don't look nice with reddish colored lipstick.

MISC.
i. brushes - i think brushes are important and you should probably have at least 2 >_o I use the bigger one for my liquid foundation because I find it easy to apply and they're easier to clean than getting sponges, but sponges are still good to have.
ii. eye/face jewels - anything can be used for these. You can pick them up at any arts and crafts store and possibly even dollar store. And they don't even have to be tiny~ big ones are cute too and will suffice :3
iii. hair clips/bobby pins - these are good for keeping your hair out of your face~ so it doesn't matter what you use
iv. q-tips/applicators - these are idea to use for smudging and even applying eyeshadow to your eyes
v. pads - these are good to use for when you remove your makeup~ along with make-up remover as well! x3 which is a good idea, especially if you apply a lot of heavy, dark make-up around your eyes

o14. WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE JEWEL THINGS THAT YOU PUT ON YOUR FACE?
You can find them at either a dollar store in the arts/crafts section or even at a local arts and crafts store. even those cellphone jewels with designs that are adhesive work well too.

Eh... Am I the only one with questions? Or am I just the only one who read this??

Either way, I love your tuts, and that lighter - eyeliner trick will prove useful. I was curious however, which brand eyeliner (the pencil ones) you use? Maybe I'm blind, but I've never seen such vibrant colors of eyeliner before 8).

That's great from you to have put the brands of makeup you use and I am a real fan of your tutorial.

I've seen other tut, such as on youtube,etc..
but for me personally yours is better, because it's mostly done for people who don't have the asian shape eyes and you came up with really great idea, also the one you made is more easy to understand.
You do your makeup really well.
I wish I can get it as well as you*must practice*
My only prob is that my eye is kinda small.

well anyway thanks a lot for the tut.:heart:
Am gonna try my best and show you the result if it turn out kinda good:giggle:

from your tut, what makeup do you think is best when doing lolita fashion?*sorry to ask, but am kinda new to this and am more in lolita fashion or decora*
